Why We
Save Lives

Founded in October 2014, We Save Lives was established to combat the alarming rise in traffic crashes. After my experience with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), I recognized the need for an organization that addressed not only drunk driving but also drugged and distracted driving. My goal was to create a coalition focused on saving lives, which began in my living room. We now have almost 100 partners who participate in our initiatives.

Our History

Since our inception, we have launched several campaigns to help you save lives, including:

Just Drive: Enable Airplane/Drive Mode

A successful petition to Apple that led to the creation of a feature to help users avoid distractions while driving, inspired by the tragic story of Margay Schee.

#ButNotWhile Driving Campaign

This initiative encourages individuals to add #ButNotWhileDriving to their email signatures, promoting safe driving behaviors and discouraging distractions.

Drop The “A” Word Campaign

A coalition effort to eliminate the term “accident” from discussions about roadway incidents, highlighting the dangers of reckless driving.

National Passenger Safety Week

Launched with the National Road Safety Organization, this initiative empowers passengers to establish safety boundaries in vehicles.

STOP MARIJUANA-IMPAIRED DRIVING Initiative

A call to action that encourages community engagement through petitions, forums, and educational workshops about marijuana’s effects on driving.

The Courage to Intervene Promise

A commitment to take action against unsafe behaviors, emphasizing the importance of intervening to prevent potential tragedies.

100 Safest Days Campaign

In partnership with various organizations, this initiative aims to transform the “100 Deadliest Days” of summer into the “100 Safest Days” by empowering parents to influence teen driving behaviors.

We have also produced award-winning PSAs, including "Reflections From Inside," which has reached millions worldwide.

We encourage you to share our campaigns, adopt safe driving practices, and advocate for change.

We are actively involved in legislative advocacy, including:

California AB2198 Replaces "accident" with "crash" in the vehicle code for impaired driving.
Florida SB 1118 and HB 299 Establishes zero tolerance for drug-impaired driving.
Oregon Senate Bill 2 Increases penalties for mobile device use while driving.
Iowa SF 444 & HF 519 Toughens penalties for distracted driving and mandates breath tests for offenders.
Texas SB31 & HB62 Penalizes phone use while driving.
Vermont H.237 Allows saliva testing for suspected drug-impaired drivers.
Rhode Island HB 5151 Requires ignition locks on school buses.
Washington HB 1371 Bans cell phone use while driving.

Through these efforts, We Save Lives is dedicated to helping YOU create a safer driving environment for you, your family, and friends.
